Frequently Asked Questions regarding your DAAD ID

What is the DAAD ID and where can I use it?

The DAAD offers a large number of services that you can only use after registering with us. The DAAD ID is your central user profile that will give you access to all our services using a single login. You no longer need to memorise several user names and passwords.

To start with, you can use your DAAD ID for the following services:

There are plans to link further services. You can find an overview of the services in the menu under “DAAD Services”.

I already have a login for the DAAD portal. Do I have to register again?

No. Your existing portal access data can be used as your DAAD ID with immediate effect. Simply log in with your email address and password. The previous additional option to login via an individual unsername is not available anymore. You may however login using the email adress you registered with when you initially created your account.

How do I register or get a DAAD ID?

Open the homepage and click on “Register now”.

Step 1: Verify your email address
Enter a valid email address to which you have access. Please note that you will not be able to change this email address afterwards.

You will now receive an email with a verification code. The code is valid for five minutes.

  • The sender of the email is “Microsoft im Namen von Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst e.V. (DAAD)”.
  • The subject is “E-Mail-Prüfnummer für Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst e.V. (DAAD)-Konto”.

Enter the verification code into the registration form and click “Verify code”. In case you did not receive the email, you can have the verification code sent once again. Please make sure to check your spam and junk folders.

Step 2: Complete your profile
Fill out the additional information on your profile (password, title, first name, surname, preferred language) and confirm that you have read our Data Privacy Statement. Then click “Continue” to set up your account.

Tips for setting a safe password: 

  • 8–16 characters
  • 3 of the 4 following criteria must be met:
    • Lowercase letters
    • Capital letters
    • Numbers (0–9)
    • Special characters: @ # $ % ^ & * – _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , ? / ` ~ ” ( ) ; .

How much does it cost to register?

Registration and the DAAD ID are free of charge and can be set up in only a few steps.

Important note: Please do not use any third-party services to carry out your registration for a fee. The DAAD does not support such services.

What do I need to register?

Simply use your email address and password in order to register. Previously, it was possible to log in with a user name or email address. Please note that login is no longer possible with a user name.

What is my email address?

If you have forgotten your email address for your registration, please get in touch with us via the contact form and state your user name.

How can I change my email address?

You want to change your email address for the login with your DAAD-ID? To do so, please call up this page and follow the instructions.

Important: The change only applies to your login via DAAD-ID. If you have entered an email address at one of the DAAD services (e.g. during an application process via the portal), you need to change your email address there as well.

How can I reset my password?

You’ve forgotten your password? To receive a new password, you need to have access to your e-mail account. Open the following page and follow the instructions:

  • First enter your e-mail address.
  • Then enter the verfication code which has been sent to your e-mail account.
    The code is valid for five minutes. In case you did not receive the email, you can have the verification code sent once again. Please make sure to check your spam and junk folders.
  • Afterwards you can set a new password and commit it.

Or just open the “My DAAD” homepage and click the “Login” button in the top right and then “Forgot your Password?”. You will receive an email with further instructions for resetting your password.

How can I change my data?

You can change the following data yourself under “My DAAD”: Title, first name, surname, preferred language and password. After you have logged in, you can find the button to access your profile in the top right of the menu. Select “Personal data”.

Other profile data might also be stored under the individual DAAD services, such as the application portal. Bring up the application portal to amend your data there.

Which data are saved?

We save the following data entered at the time of registration: Email address, password, title, first name, surname, preferred language.

How do I change the language of the portal?

To change your portal language after registration, please login firstly via www.mydaad.de.

Once you are signed in, please click on your email address in the top right corner to open a drop-down menu. Please select „Personal Data“to proceed.

In the next window you will have the possibility to change the „Preferred language “. This setting affects the portal language.

Please note that some services are not available in both languages.

How can I unlock my profile if it has become locked?

If you incorrectly enter your password several times, your profile is locked for security reasons. Please wait a moment before trying again.

Alternatively, you can reset your password under “Forgot your Password?”.

How can I delete my profile?

If you would like to delete your profile, just send us a delete request via the contact form.
